“Going to the Sun Road” ~ Glacier National Park
Spanning Glacier National Park from the east to the west entrance, the Going-to-the-Sun Road is about 50 miles long and crosses the Continental Divide at Logan pass at an elevation of 6,600 ft. Construction began in 1921 and was not completed until 1932 at a cost of $2.5 million. Named after Going-to-the-Sun Mountain, the name came from Native Americans who tell the story that their Sun God came down to Earth during difficult times and then left climbing the Going-to-the-Sun Mountain and disappeared into the Sun.
